Lot’s of fun shooting Billy Slater and Mo’onia Gerard for the Steeden Boxing shoot. It wasn’t the the first shoot with Billy and even though we was sprayed with Baby oil and water hopefully it wont be the last.
Both of these athletes are very generous with their time and they are only to pleased to assist with getting the best possible shots.
In most cases our clients prefer to be at the shoot regardless of the subject matter. In this case we were instructed to photograph Nick Kyrgios for Yonex, their brief was very detailed as they follow a set format for all of their sponsored players. The Yonex marketing team are very experienced and their contribution to the shoot is valuable. Where possible we set up the studio prior to the client arriving to minimise the set up time and maximise the shoot time.
This shoot of Bernard Tomic was particularly challenging because it was scheduled interstate which meant as well as the usual pressures in dealing with a sports personality I had the challenges of working in a different space. I hired a local photographers assistant for the day which meant I could manage the light set up in two parts of the studio and conduct test shots before the client arrived. Fortunately the client brief was excellent and as they like to get involved in the shoot the screen approvals were fast.
This shoot for Holloway Diamonds was particularly hectic because we had in attendance the client, art director, stylist, model and video photographer. The shoot was for a product catalogue and billboards. All the shots were briefed in the way of storyboards which made the shoot easy to follow. and although there was a fare number of people attending we have and will continue to make them welcome as their contribution to the shoot is valuable. In my experience on these larger shoots when art directors and stylists are involved the client will often want to attend to see how their project is progressing.
